How do you define you?
Look in the mirror. What do you see? Do you see your beauty? Do you see how precious you are? Do you see the wonderful person you truly are? Do you see yourself as dearly loved and irreplaceable? Or do you see all your imperfections? That pimple on your forehead or the way your eyes shrink when you smile? Do you see the hair you don’t like or the body you think too fat or too skinny?
Have you ever noticed that babies are fascinated with their appearance? But as we grow older, we become used to the person in the mirror and now when we look the only thing we see are those imperfections. We live in a world where no one is satisfied with their appearance. Isn’t that heartbreaking?
Now look again. Look at your eyes. Do you see their complexity, shape, and color? Do you see their beauty? Look at your freckles and your hair. Know that the Creator of the universe placed each freckle on your face and each hair on your head because that’s how He wanted you to be. Your are His masterpiece. And He loves you just the way you are. Now close your eyes and imagine your life. Are you thinking about all the times you failed? Those bad grades, lost games, disappointments, the things people do better then you and your failures? Think again. Now imagine all your successes, those As you received on your assignments, your accomplishments, and things you’ve done right.
It’s true you’ll never be perfect.
NEWSFLASH we weren’t created to be perfect.
You are not your mistakes. You are not the things said wrong or things regretted. You are not your sin. You are a child of God. You were created for a purpose. You are dear. You are deeply loved. You are treasured. You are unique. You are amazing. He loves you and each and every one of your imperfections. “Know that you were formed by God’s hands, dreamed up in his heart, and placed in this world for a purpose.”
What are your talents and passions? What fills your heart with joy and makes you productive? What is your burning passion? This is what God created you to succeed in. They make you you! John Piper once said, “Whatever you do find the God-centered, Christ-exalting, Bible-saturated passion of your life, and find your way to say it, live it, and die for it.”
If there was a dictionary full of definitions for people, what would your definition be? Would you be know as smart? Genuine? Popular? Fake? Annoying? A lover of Jesus? Encouraging?
We all have labels so what’s yours?
What’s your name?
Look in the mirror.
